“This wasn’t a miracle. It was an act of heroism by the passengers and of the Emirati crew. It’s people who saved the day, people who showed courage, who didn’t stand passively but took action…” (Naphtali Bennett, former Israeli Prime Minister) This outrageous quote is an embarrassing attempt to score political points with Israelis in the upcoming Israel election. Of course the Israeli heroes should be honored, but to deny God’s hand is borderline blasphemous. I don’t expect him to do well at the polls. This is not a case of either/or, but BOTH! God had mercy on 180 people (plus unknown thousands in the skyscraper target) and He used human heroes.
The radicalized Omani terrorist co-pilot of the FlyDubai flight had a plan. By now it is obvious that he intended to fly the plane into a Tel Aviv skyscraper, or even target Jerusalem itself! He was only twenty minutes away when the incident began. I believe he expected to kill the pilot quickly with no ruckus and then calmly finish his goal. When he knew he failed he asked those holding him down to kill him.
Here are a few “non-miraculous coincidences.” How did these particular heroes all just happen to be on this flight? The pilot fought back and created a ruckus. He sent out an alarm code, He unlocked the cabin door. A little girl in the rest room went and woke up her mother who first screamed during the knife attack happening. The plane dive was 115MPH faster than the top speed and lost the tail rudder. An Israeli plumber in the front of economy ran to the cabin and dragged out the co-pilot with a choke hold, and then ran back and pulled the plane out of the dive because he had seen how on a TV show. (Just a coincidence.) A dentist stopped the bleeding of the pilot and probably saved his life. The plane hit one or two air pockets that slowed the dive. Did I mention the other two pilots in the back of the plane? They flew the plane with missing rudder and other parts and managed to land it safely. (Again, not a miracle, just luck.) There are many more examples. Yes to the heroes and yes to the God of mercy!
“You have with Your arm redeemed Your people.” “the Most High rules in the kingdom of men.” Notice these quotes in the following verses from Psalms and Daniel. Our relationship with God includes acknowledging Him in our lives.
“And I said, “This is my anguish; But I will remember the years of the right hand of the Most High.” I will remember the works of Yehovah; Surely I will remember Your wonders of old. I will also meditate on all Your work, and talk of Your deeds. Your way, O God, is in the sanctuary; Who is so great a God as our God? You are the God who does wonders; You have declared Your strength among the peoples. You have with Your arm redeemed Your people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph.”Psalm 77:10-15
“This decision is by the decree of the watchers, And the sentence by the word of the holy ones, In order that the living may know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, Gives it to whomever He will, And sets over it the lowest of men.”Daniel 4:17
God is faithful! Thank you Lord Jesus for your mercy. We pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
